NORWALK, CT, Aug. 20, 2022 – HMTX Industries Director of Sustainability and Impact Arthur Clarke won the People Honoree at Floor Covering Weekly magazine’s GreenStep Awards for his stellar work in sustainability on behalf of HMTX Industries.
Floor Covering Weekly’s annual GreenStep Environmental awards program recognizes, promotes and honors organizations and individuals in the flooring industry for their stewardship, initiatives, and accomplishments in sustainability.
Said FCW Managing Editor Mallory Cruise-McGrath in presenting Art the People Honoree award, “HMTX’s foundation is built on sustainable principles, and the company has a talented team behind that. Arthur Clarke has developed his commitment to a civilization that is socially just, culturally rich, and ecologically restorative, making his mark on the company and the products it makes.”
In his acceptance remarks, Clarke noted that out of everything that HMTX has achieved on the sustainability and transparency front, the one project that stands out the most for him is the Just social justice designation. In 2020, HMTX became the first manufacturer in the world to achieve a Just label under version 2.0 of the standard. “That label – which covered U.S. employees and operations – served as a baseline and illustrated where we were doing well and where we needed to improve,” said Clarke. “Two years later, in 2022, we renewed our Just label and realized improvements in nine out of twenty-two Just metrics. We’re continuing to work on other improvements and enhancements and have even partnered with the International Living Future Institute – the organization behind the Just label – to launch a third-party verification pilot for Just 2.0, which will help bolster their efforts for the same kind of program under the next version, Just 3.0.
