The mission of the Halstead/Metroflor Addiction Crisis Charity (HMAC), in effect since July 2019, initially was to raise funds to fight the disease of addiction, which has grown to epic proportions during the pandemic and is often exacerbated by co-occurring mental illness. Now the nonprofit HMAC organization has been renamed HMTX Cares with the dual purpose of also funding mental health organizations, in addition to our current support of addiction rehabilitation, aftercare and education facilities.

Those who want to support the HMTX Cares expanded scope are invited to join us November 18th at the Golf Tournament & Fundraiser, Fields Ferry, in Calhoun, Georgia. For more details and to sign up, click on the link below.

We made the decision to also fund mental health organizations in addition to fighting the disease of addiction because the two conditions are inextricably related. More than 37% of people struggling with substance abuse disorders also suffer from major mental health problems, also made much worse by the pandemic lockdowns. Now we will also support the National Association on Mental Illness (NAMI), the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. Learn more about NAMI here.

The HMTX Cares Golf Tournament on Nov. 18th will draw attention to the new dual purpose and to continue the group’s fundraising efforts, which to date have raised over $320,000 toward our ultimate goal of $500,000 by July 1, 2022. HMTX CEO Harlan Stone has agreed to match the funds that HMTX Cares raises.

We hope supporters of these worthy causes will consider joining us by creating a foursome to play and for those who cannot make it, consider becoming a Sponsor (information on the same form). Learn more about our agency partners/ beneficiaries along with our new mission by visiting HMTX Cares or emailing us at Hmtxcares@hmtx.global.

One of the tournament highlights will be our partnership with the professional women’s golf group BackSwing who will be on site for a special “Beat the Pro” opportunity to help raise additional funds. More details on this exciting initiative will follow soon.

ABOUT HMTX CARES

HMTX Cares (formerly the Halstead/Metroflor Addiction Crisis Charity – HMAC) is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to supporting organizations and facilities providing rehabilitation, education and hope for those suffering from Substance Abuse Disorders (SADs), which afflict an alarming and increasing number of Americans each year. Now HMTX Cares is expanding its focus to encompass mental illness as an important part of its mission, as addiction and mental illness often go hand in hand in destroying lives and even leading to death through overdose or suicide. Its goal is to raise $500,000 through fundraising activities, with the money raised to be fully matched by HMTX CEO Harlan Stone.
