Norwalk, CT, Jan. 17, 2024 – HMTX Industries CEO Harlan Stone was appointed to the Board of Trustees of The Maritime Aquarium, in recognition of his strong commitment to the Norwalk, CT community in which HMTX is headquartered, and the environment – a combination that will help the Aquarium foster a connection between the community and the ocean. Stone was the recipient of the Aquarium’s 2023 Community Leader Award acknowledging his numerous philanthropic endeavors focused on housing, education, cancer research, and the environment.

The Maritime Aquarium President and CEO Jason Patlis noted, “Harlan is deeply committed to Norwalk as a strong and diverse community and recognizes the Aquarium as a pillar of that community. As we embark on a new strategic plan that emphasizes our role in the community, his passion and leadership will be instrumental to our success.” Added Chair of the Board of Trustees Clay Fowler, “The Maritime Aquarium is entering a new decade of growth. We are excited to welcome Harlan to the board as we create new and innovative ways to engage our community.”

“I am so pleased to be joining The Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk Board of Trustees,” said Stone. The people I know on the board, the leadership of TMA, and the wonderful programs and facilities are all exemplary. It is truly an honor to be part of the Strategic Vision that Jason Patlis and his team have put together along with the Board and input from the community.

“As one of the leading cultural attractions in the State of Connecticut, The Maritime Aquarium has significant influence in our community—both the city of Norwalk and beyond. I have visited many times as both a father and now a grandfather. The next time I visit, it will be with new eyes and a greater understanding of the impact this jewel of South Norwalk can deliver.”

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk works to ignite a connection to Long Island Sound and the ocean to enrich the lives of all people and inspire action to protect our blue planet. The aquarium is home to over 7,500 animals of hundreds of species including seals, sharks, rays, jellies, turtles, and meerkats. Additionally, it offers sensory-enhanced 4D movies, in-person and virtual education programs for schools and families, and public cruises aboard its hybrid-electric research vessel.
