Norwalk, CT, Nov. 14, 2023 – With sustainability and conservation at the forefront of its Seas the Night Gala on Nov. 2, The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk raised over $400,000 in support of its live exhibits, award-winning education programs, and conservation efforts benefiting the Long Island Sound. HMTX Industries CEO Harlan Stone was honored with the organization’s Community Leader Award for his philanthropic efforts to help provide housing, food, education and healthcare to underserved communities locally and globally. HMTX hosted the event, attended by over 100 guests, in the company’s world headquarters (known as “the House Up On The Hill”) in Norwalk, CT.
In introducing Harlan Stone as this year’s Community Leader, Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, said in a video tribute, “You are such a hope builder, and I am so grateful not only for your expertise and wisdom, but also for the joy and heart you bring as well. You lead by example, you lead by service, and we are also grateful for the example you set for all of us.”
HMTX Senior Director, Community Engagement Rick Taylor accepted the award on behalf of Stone, who was unable to attend the gala. Taylor also bestowed a $5,000 grant to The Maritime Aquarium which HMTX received from the Aquarion Water Company as its 2023 Environmental Champion to donate to an environmental nonprofit organization of HMTX’s choice.
