May 12, 2021 – The WSLA Alumnae Group, which acquired the Women in Sustainability Leadership Awards (WSLA) from gb&d magazine in August 2020, announced that the seventh annual WSLA Awards will be held virtually on May 19, 7 PM – 8:30 PM EST. The WSLA Awards advance, honor and connect the most powerful women at the forefront of sustainability who are making a difference in the world by initiating lasting change. Suggested ticket donation is $25, which is tax deductible. (The WSLA Alumnae Group is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.) Keynote speaker will be Kaye Husbands Fealing, Dean of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and formerly the Chair of its School of Public Policy. She specializes in science and innovation policy, the public value of research expenditures, and the underrepresentation of women and minorities in STEM fields and workforce.

Spoken Word Poet Awa Ndiaye will also be featured, who through her poetry explores various themes including identity, social justice, and climate change. During the event, Awa will deliver two original poems, including one about her vision of the ideal world. Learn more about Awa HERE.

The 10 Class of 2021 winners will join the ranks of the WSLA Alumnae Group: over 85 of the most influential women and previous WSLA Awards recipients who have become a powerful force in creating a more sustainable world. The group’s summits, service activities, and mentorship opportunities are paving the way in sustainability and for future leaders in the field.

Rochelle Routman, president and chairperson of the WSLA Alumnae Group, said, “This event is shaping up to be one of our best yet! It will be professionally produced and very inspirational. Everyone attending will become acquainted with each award winner, as well as their outstanding accomplishments. The recognition of each new award winner strengthens our voice, collectively, enabling us to do our important work with greater resolve.”

The winners – the most qualified trailblazers in the sustainability profession — were chosen by a panel of sustainability professionals for meeting the rigorous WSLA Awards standards:

• Are creating a noteworthy, lasting, and positive impact to the planet
• Value mentorship and guide other female leaders
• Demonstrate bravery and courage in the workplace

Lisa Colicchio, vice president of the WSLA Alumnae Group, commented, “It’s more than an award: We are building an IMPACT MOVEMENT. The WSLA Alumnae Group is expanding the tent to seek out the most diverse, environmentally passionate women change-makers around the globe who are breaking through glass ceilings and can join this coalition of previously recognized, powerful leaders.”
