NORWALK, CT, Sept. 20, 2021 – HMTX Industries became the proud winner of two GreenStep Sustainability Awards bestowed by Floor Covering Weekly during a ceremony at the Dalton Country Club on Sept. 15. The environmental awards program recognizes, promotes and honors organizations and individuals in the flooring industry for their stewardship, initiatives and accomplishments in the area of sustainability. HMTX was honored in the International and People categories.

In presenting the International GreenStep Award, Amy Rush, editor-in-chief of Floor Covering Weekly, commented, “The GreenStep International Award recognizes that important efforts are being made not just here in the U.S. but abroad as well. While the flooring footprint is global, so is its impact on worldwide sustainable efforts. As an international company, HMTX Industries has continuously been at the forefront of global sustainability initiatives from responsible sourcing, published Declare labels and more.”

Accepting the International Award on behalf of HMTX was Arthur Clarke, Director of Sustainability. “With staff in four continents and millions of customers in over 30 countries, we’ve always been driven to incorporate different perspectives into our sustainability program,” said Clarke. “We were the first company to obtain JUST labels for factories in China (and all of Asia), and we were the first and remain the only manufacturer to publish Declare labels with embodied carbon data in multiple languages. We’ve also been one of the most steadfast supporters of such organizations as the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), including its affiliates Living Future Europe and The Living Future Institute of Australia. We act as though every decision we make has consequences that reach far beyond our own boardrooms and neighborhoods – because they absolutely do.”

Rochelle Routman, Chief Sustainability and Quality Officer of HMTX, was the recipient of the GreenStep People Award, developed to shine a light on what the flooring industry is doing for its people and community as well as the people driving these great efforts. Said Rush in presenting the award to Rochelle, “She is passionate about sustainability, generous and giving, and a champion of women in this field. Rochelle embodies all the traits of a true visionary: the ability to plan the future with imagination and wisdom.”

“Through friendly competition, the GreenStep awards bring professionals in the flooring industry closer together in the mission to incorporate sustainability into their business models,” said Routman. “It is very meaningful to win the People Award and I am deeply grateful for this recognition as a leader in the flooring industry. I would like to thank everyone along the way that has given me advice, support, and the opportunity to share my ideas, some of which were initially viewed as troublemaking but are now the status quo in how business is done.”
